2004 Grand marshal Jane James Jane Wheaton was born in Philadelphia and moved to Dublin area at an early age, when her father came to work on the Conowingo Dam construction. Jane attended Dublin High School and went on to get her Nursing degree in Baltimore. Jane married her high school sweetheart, Lamar James, and had two children, Walter and Helen. Jane was instrumental in starting the Girl Scouts in Dublin and was their leader for many years. There are some elderly ones that fondly remember her as their leader. “Janie” has been a member of Dublin United Methodist Church since her early youth. She taught Sunday School and Bible School classes and has been involved in the “FISH” program, a program to help provide food to the less fortunate. She is an active member of the church choir and the church ladies group. Jane worked at Bainbridge Naval base in the commissary and later worked at Harford Memorial Hospital in the delivery room. After retirement she often volunteered at the hospital. In 1941 or 1942 Jane had a young redhead that lives in Dublin out on the dance floor, for his first time “shaking a leg.” That redhead fondly remembers that day and said his legs were “literally shaking.” Jane has always had a lighter side; s he was part of “The Dublin Gang” as it came to be known. The “gang” was several couples in Dublin that were always playing harmless practical jokes on each other. Jane has often volunteered at the election hall. She is a member of the Eastern Star. She would visit and just sit and talk about cooking, sewing, or anything with the neighbors in Dublin. She loved going camping with Lamar. She loves doing crafts and making her own greeting cards. It is with pride and honor we acknowledge the effort and contributions Jane has given to the community.
