Howard Springer

Howard Springer was born August 1917 in Wilmington, Delaware, moving to Harford County when he was two years old.  Howard has resided on Dublin Road for the last 35 years.  he received his high school diploma from Havre de Grace High School and his college degree from Goldie Beacom in Wilmington, Delaware.

After college Howard served his country during World War II receiving a Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon and Expert Infantryman Badge - SS- M1 Rifle.  After the service he returned to Edgewood Arsenal (now Aberdeen Proving Ground) to work in the fire department.  He rose through the ranks and became Fire Chief, retiring from the Federal Government in 1972 with over 30 years of service.  During this period he was also a volunteer fire fighter becoming President of Maryland's State Fireman's Association in 1958.  During this year, Howard traveled over the entire state of Maryland giving speeches, dedicating fire houses, attending banquets and representing Maryland's Fire Service.  Howard was also active in the Darlington Volunteer Fire Company doing fire fighting, training and assisting on the ambulance.  He has retired from the fire company and is a life member.   He was inducted into the Maryland State Fireman's Hall of Fame and also the Harford Cecil Hall of Fame.

Howard has been a member of Dublin United Methodist Church for 25 plus years.  he has been a choir member, served on the trustees and finance committee and taught Sunday School.  He still assists with most of the dinners held at the church.

In addition, Howard was Cub Scout leader for Pack 301 and Scout Master for Troop 301 which is sponsored by Dublin United Methodist Church.  He also served as a Little League coach.

Howard is the father of two children, Sharon and Glenn, who have provided him with six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.  He works one day a week at Citizens Care Center as Safety director and spends his free time trying to keep up with his grandchildren, reading, playing golf and his lawn work.
